Message From FBA Oregon Chapter
President Laura Salerno-Owens
Welcome to the Oregon Chapter of the Federal Bar Association!
The FBA is the bridge between the federal bench and the bar in Oregon, and strives to promote professionalism, collegiality, and inclusiveness in the federal legal community. The Oregon chapter, which has nearly 350 members, is one of the largest in the country. Our membership reflects all facets of the federal legal community, and includes judges, academics, and civil and criminal practitioners. I am thrilled and honored to serve as the President of our chapter for the 2016-2017 term. I have been a member of the FBA since my first year of practice, and I am now a shareholder at Markowitz Herbold PC where I focus on employment litigation.
Throughout the year, the Oregon FBA hosts a wide variety of educational programs and social functions to advance federal jurisprudence and provide a networking forum for our membership. For example, Jacqueline Kamis and Megan Crowhurst spearhead our monthly luncheon series in Portland, while Judge Aiken and Judge Russo are organizing monthly lunches in Eugene. Chief Judge Mosman works closely with Danielle Hunsaker, Gosia Fonberg, Chris Pallanch, Susan Pitchford, and other board members in planning our dynamic district conference. Nadia Dahab has spearheaded our award-winning newsletter which keeps members apprised of significant current events in our District. Shannon Armstrong leads our Haggerty Scholars program, giving high school students interested in civil rights a year-long opportunity to learn about the federal courts and the practice of law. One of our newest board members, Judge McKittrick, will work to help increase our connection with bankruptcy practitioners. We have a Younger Lawyers Division, headed by Nellie Barnard, and which includes our new Law Student Division, dedicated to serving the needs of newer lawyers. We also support pro bono scholarships so practitioners can represent indigent clients in federal court. Please review our calendar here to learn of additional upcoming events.
If you are not already a member, I hope you will join the Oregon Chapter of the FBA here to learn of upcoming events. We welcome your participation and involvement in the Chapter.
I look forward to seeing you at upcoming events.
